Authentic IDs for BREW: Enrolment Process

VeriSign® Authentic Document IDs for BREW® allow BREW developers to digitally notarise their BREW applications from the desktop.

System Requirements

  • Windows® 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000, XP or Vista (Windows 2000 users must log in as an administrator)
  • Internet Explorer® 5.0 and higher

You must buy and retrieve your code signing certificate from the same computer. If you have problems with retrieval, confirm that you are using the same computer, browser and login profile used to enrol. You can sign code with the certificate on any computer once it is retrieved. Authentic Document IDs are not compatible with Apple® operating systems.

Vista users: Vista has strict rules for enabling the VeriSign Personal Trust Agent required for the enrolment process. See Code Signing Support.

After you click buy, select a bundle based on the number of applications you expect to notarise in the next 12 months. Unused digital notarisations expire one year from issue.

Buy VeriSign Code Signing certificates

First time buyers need to install the VeriSign Personal Trust Agent (PTA) and ActiveX control. NOTE: Vista has strict rules for enabling the PTA (see: Code Signing Support). The download begins automatically on the third step of the enrolment process. In the Security Warning window, click Yes to install the PTA and ActiveX control. Once installed, a PTA Wizard Create New Profile window opens. Follow the steps to create your profile by clicking Next or Accept.

You will need the following information:
  • Technical contact: Name, address, telephone number and the e-mail address where the certificate and renewal notices should be delivered.
  • Authentic Document ID information: The organisation name that will appear in the digital signature.
  • Create a New Profile: The VeriSign Personal Trust Agent Wizard will open a pop-up window. Click Next. Enter a username and password, click Create.
  • Challenge phrase: A password used to renew or revoke your certificate.
  • Organisation contact: VeriSign contacts this person to authorise your certificate request as part of the certificate authentication process. Provide accurate information to expedite the process and to ensure that renewal notices reach the organisation contact.
  • Payment information: Pay by credit card for quickest issue. If you pay by purchase order, cheque or bank transfer, VeriSign must receive payment before delivering your certificate.

VeriSign will validate the information received. Once your application is approved and payment received, you will be sent an e-mail containing your VeriSign® Authentic Document IDs for BREW or directing you to a URL for pickup. If you have problems with retrieval, confirm that you are using the same computer, browser and login profile used to enrol.
