Digital certificate-enabled smart cards are
an efficient, flexible and portable solution for authenticating identities,
encrypting data and validating transactions, so that organizations can
alleviate security risks, reduce costs and provide end- users with convenient,
value-added services.
VeriSign offers scalable, flexible and customizable
solutions for incorporating certificates into smart cards. By allowing
enterprises to outsource all or a portion of the certificate issuance
process, VeriSign makes it easier and faster to produce and integrate
digital certificates on to smart cards for a range of purposes - from
mobile phones, cable modems and set top boxes to banking, healthcare
and national ID cards - and support multiple processes, including key
generation and certificate issuance. In addition, enterprises can leverage
the expertise of our Professional Services Organization to provide seamless
integration with existing systems and services.
Two solutions of VeriSign Smart Cards are
available to meet varying customer demands.
High-Volume Smart Card Solution
VeriSign enables certificates to be generated
in batch volumes for incorporation into smart cards and other devices.
Based on VeriSign's carrier-class, 24x7 digital certificate architecture
and industry-leading outsourced managed PKI services, the platform is
currently the only offering that enables smart card providers to integrate
digital certificates into the device manufacturing/card production process.
VeriSign can integrate with various device manufacturing systems or
card management systems via the XKMS
standard interface or through direct integration. The VeriSign
platform provides scalability and reliability, with little effort or
resources expended by the enterprise.
Low-to-Medium Volume Smart Card Solution
Low-to-medium volume smart card solutions are
ideal for enterprises or situations that require a limited number of
certificates at a given time, such as multi-use identification badges
for employees, for introducing pilot programs, and handling exceptions.
In these scenarios, VeriSign managed PKI services deliver flexible solutions
for integrating digital certificates into smart cards.
