Philippines Telecom Operator Bayan Telecommunications Selects VeriSign® Messaging and Mobile Media
VeriSign’s Open Connectivity SMS Service enables carriers to deliver
inter-carrier person to person text messages globally, across operators
and devices
LONDON, June 12, 2008 – Customers of Bayan Telecommunications,
one of the leading telecommunications companies in the Philippines,
now have the ability to send and receive person to person text messages,
across 500 operators globally and 2.2 billion subscribers, thanks to
the Open Connectivity SMS (OCSMS) Service offered by the Messaging and
Mobile Media Division of VeriSign® (NASDAQ: VRSN), the leading provider
of Internet infrastructure services for the networked world. Recently,
VeriSign’s Messaging and Mobile Media Division was one of the first
vendors to successfully meet the criteria required to offer SMS Hubbing
Solutions as defined by the GSMA, the operator-led trade association
representing the global mobile industry. The GSMA Open Connectivity
Programme was established to facilitate easier and quicker interworking
and roaming between GSM operators.
“At Bayan Telecommunications, our customers always
come first and are at the core of our mission and the way we conduct
business,” said Marvic H. Molina, Head of Bayan Telecommunications Global.
“With VeriSign Messaging and Mobile Media, our customers will now have
greater reach globally coupled with superior spam and fraud detection
services making their communications far more seamless and secure and
that is most important to us.”
“Subscribers expect to communicate globally, regardless
of their location in the world, the device they are using, or the carrier
network,” said Charles Landry, vice president, global messaging services,
VeriSign. “VeriSign’s Open Connectivity platform makes it simple for
operators to meet this customer expectation, by offering global connectivity
for their subscribers, eliminating the need for carriers to negotiate
and manage multiple contracts and billing relationships. As a
leader in the North America inter-carrier market, we are thrilled to
extend our market leadership into the Philippines, and we are seeing
a lot of momentum to continue to grow worldwide with this service. Since
completing its self-certification with the GSMA in November 2007, VeriSign’s
Messaging and Mobile Media Division has launched 30 customers to its
OCSMS Gateway Service,” continued Landry.
Developed as part of the GSMA-led Open Connectivity
initiative, the VeriSign OCSMS platform supports both IP and SS7 transport
mediums to provide the flexibility for operators to exchange messages
through a single connection to VeriSign. In addition to message
exchange, this service can provide a majority of the services traditionally
performed by the operator roaming services group, such as termination
fee and agreement establishment, thus helping to reduce operators costs
associated with doing business.
